Today we explored the small beach town of Puerto Morelos. Our Christmas Eve was spent in the Caribbean Sea looking at fish and coral reefs. We drove 30-minutes south to Puerto Morelos and snorkeled at the National Reef Park with Wet Set Diving and Snorkeling Adventures. Then, we worked up an appetite and found some delicious grinds at La Petita en la Playita before chilling on the beach for a while and cleaning out some leftovers at our AirBnB.

Turks and Caicos: Island Vibes
Our last full day on the island of Turks and Caicos was spent on a boat, a remote island, and under water. We reserved a full-day spot for our family on the Island Vibes Tours and we were ready for snorkeling, a visit to Iguana Island, fun in the sun, and much more! Continue reading
Turks and Caicos: Exploring Malcolm’s Road Beach
A co-worker had tipped us off about Malcolm’s Road Beach. And while we had spent some time here a few days ago, we really didn’t get a chance to explore it. Now that we were more comfortable with our snorkel gear and our ability in the water we stayed out longer, ventured out further, and maximized our day on the west side of Turks and Caicos, Providenciales Island. Continue reading
Turks and Caicos: Coral Gardens Reef
The first day of winter. 80ยบ here in Turks and Caicos. Mild 60’s back home in Raleigh. After a rainy day yesterday, we were hoping for better weather today. No matter what, we’ll make the best of it and we won’t be stuck in our villa. Our plan had a familiar ring to it, go to the beach, do some snorkeling, and maximize fun. Oh, and swim with sea turtles!
Turks and Caicos: Sapodilla and Storms
Today was a great day on Turks and Caicos. Mostly because it was Merri Beth’s birthday! Hooray!! We were excited to celebrate her birthday in Providenciales with some island vibes. The rain that arrived in the afternoon didn’t dampen our spirits. Exploring more of the island, some take-out for dinner, and family fun prevailed. Continue reading
Turks and Caicos: Snorkeling at Malcolm’s Beach
We were ready for a full day on the beach and decided to head to the western part of Turks and Caicos to explore Malcom’s Beach. Getting there was pretty easy, but there were a few parts where we did question our decision. Let’s say the bumpy roads, mud puddles, and single lane roads were well worth it. Continue reading

Spring Break 2015: Rincon, Puerto Rico Day 4
Another beautiful day in Rincon was on tap. An early morning surf session with some of the leftover swell was a great way to start the day. Then the family was all geared up for a morning sail on the Katarina and some snorkeling in the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. This was day four of our Spring Break and our last full day on the island of Puerto Rico. Continue reading
Spring Break 2015: Snorkeling at Tres Palmas Marine Reserve
Explore the reef at the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve in Rincon, Puerto Rico with our GoPro as we take you below the surface. The family went snorkeling with the crew from the Katarina and enjoyed viewing all the sea life that was very active on the reef, some schools of fish swimming in the warm waters, and lots of amazing fan coral. Island Life in Hawaii: Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay
Happy Birthday Merri Beth. It’s Saturday, December 20 and our fourth full day on the island of Oahu. Lunches were packed in the cooler, beach chairs were ready, the towels were in the beach bag, and it was still dark out. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Park opened at 6:00 am.
Merri Beth, Zander, Coco, my mom, and I left the apartment in Waikiki early and arrived at Hanauma Bay around 6:30 am, the morning dusk just starting to appear on the horizon. We loaded all of our beach gear and walked down the hill to the beach after a short safety briefing at the visitor center about dangers on the reef. Continue reading
Life in Board Shorts Day Three – Snorkeling and Sand Forts
Wow! A great day on the Outer Banks. The ocean was fully cooperating and the weather was almost perfect. My day started off with a 5.7 mile run from the house to the Wright Brothers Memorial. I was up around 6:00 am and hitting the pavement before the sun took it’s full toll on the other runners and bikers out on Bay Drive. I had a great run considering the Summer conditions. A beautiful run with some great views. Continue reading
