My last spring running season before 40

I ran four half marathons over the last six weeks. That wasn’t the plan, but that’s how it panned out. After a pretty rough winter in North Carolina, where Raleigh set a new record with 158 consecutive hours below freezing, I’m surprised I got the training time and miles in to accomplish this.

I distinctly remember having to do one of my longer runs (7 miles) in early January where the high was 27° F, and there was snow on the ground. The weather this winter and spring has been about as up and down as the hills I train on, which would play out during the spring race season. Continue reading

Lacing up the 2017 running season

After three half marathons in the spring (Wilmington, Raleigh, OBX) and my first two Sprint Triathlons in the summer, I was excited for the fall race season this November and December. After miles of training in September and October (~150 miles) with warmer days leading to cooler mornings, November was a great month to run in North Carolina and enjoy all my races. All Things Open 2017 is the Deal of the Week

The excitement for the largest open source conference on the east coast is starting to build. On Wednesday of this week, the team from All Things Open had some great news to share. First, they launched the latest version of the conference website. It looks pretty slick and continues to use the Spaceman theme. Even more exciting than the new website is that registration for the conference is now open. But wait, there’s more. Continue reading

Half way through the 2015 fall race season

The fall race season started on November 1 with a warm weekend in Raleigh after ending Daylight Savings. Which meant most people got an extra hour of sleep, but that meant I had an extra hour of anxiety before race time.

City of Oaks and a new course

jhibbets_city_oaks_2015The first race of the season was the City of Oaks half marathon. This is a hilly course with multiple races happening at once. This year, there was a 10k, half marathon, half marathon relay, full marathon, and full marathon relay. The weather was a little on the mild-to-warm side, but humid. Rain was on the way and it was hard to breathe. Continue reading

SPARKconX – art, music, comedy, geek, and more

20150919_162629More SPARKcon happening on Saturday, September 19. Check out our SPARKcon adventures from Friday night. As Merri Beth and I were getting into Downtown Raleigh, we totally forgot about the Nog Run Octoberfest 8k. When we turned onto Wilmington Street it was gridlock. Total chaos due to multiple street closures. We eventually navigated to the City Center parking deck via side streets and got on our way—but it took us much longer than expected. Continue reading

Raleigh Snow Day with the Family

DCIM100GOPROIt snowed all day in Raleigh on February 24, 2015. Merri Beth and I were wakened at 6:30 am with a call from Wake County Public Schools announcing a two hour school delay—later to be followed up with canceling of school for the entire day.

Merri Beth left with Coco to head to daycare, but was back after a short while because they were closing for the day as well. Zander and I headed to Red Hat Tower for the day. We left the house around 9:30 am and were in the office in about 15 minutes with snowy conditions. There wasn’t much traffic in our direction and we made good time in slushy and icy conditions with steady snow coming down. Continue reading

99.9 The Fan Guest Coach Experience at the NC State Throwback Game

throwback_ncsu_06What an amazing night in Historic Reynolds Coliseum. I had the honor of being a guest coach for the NC State Wolfpack during the Alumni throwback game on October 17, 2014. Thanks to 99.9 The Fan, Adam Gold, and Joe Ovies, I was courtside with Wolfpack greats like Gugliotta, Monroe, Corchiani, Del Negro, Whittenburg, and Towe to name a few. Continue reading

Halloween, Red Hat style, home style

halloween2014_06We had an amazing Halloween. Of course, it’s a fun day for the family, but also at work. Halloween is important at Red Hat because of our history. 20 years ago this year, the famous Halloween release of Red Hat Linux was out in the wild. Now, it’s evolved into one of the most trusted, secure, and reliable versions of enterprise-ready Linux.

We have an awesome Halloween party at the office. Starting at 2:00 pm on Friday, Red Hat Associates gathered at the Lincoln Theater for a skit from our Corporate Leadership Team. Continue reading
