Turks and Caicos: Sapodilla and Storms

20151220_135911Today was a great day on Turks and Caicos. Mostly because it was Merri Beth’s birthday! Hooray!! We were excited to celebrate her birthday in Providenciales with some island vibes. The rain that arrived in the afternoon didn’t dampen our spirits. Exploring more of the island, some take-out for dinner, and family fun prevailed. Continue reading

Turks and Caicos: Snorkeling at Malcolm’s Beach

DCIM100GOPROWe were ready for a full day on the beach and decided to head to the western part of Turks and Caicos to explore Malcom’s Beach. Getting there was pretty easy, but there were a few parts where we did question our decision. Let’s say the bumpy roads, mud puddles, and single lane roads were well worth it. Continue reading

Turks and Caicos: Leeward and Sharkbite’s

20151218_114233Our day was off to a slow start. We decided to do some prepping for the rest of the week and cranked up the grill to cook some chicken, burgers, and veggie burgers, as well as prep other food for the remainder of the week. Half way through the 2015 fall race season

The fall race season started on November 1 with a warm weekend in Raleigh after ending Daylight Savings. Which meant most people got an extra hour of sleep, but that meant I had an extra hour of anxiety before race time.

City of Oaks and a new course

jhibbets_city_oaks_2015The first race of the season was the City of Oaks half marathon. This is a hilly course with multiple races happening at once. This year, there was a 10k, half marathon, half marathon relay, full marathon, and full marathon relay. The weather was a little on the mild-to-warm side, but humid. Rain was on the way and it was hard to breathe. Continue reading

Adventures in Oakland with the SF Giants vs A’s

20150927_162518After a rainy few days in Raleigh, I escaped to the west coast. Oakland, California to be exact. I’m here for the Code for America Summit which starts on Wednesday (and includes a pre-summit for Brigade Captains on Tuesday). Since I came out a day early, I decided to have some fun and take in a ball game. Lucky for me, it was a cross-town rivalry game between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s. Continue reading

SPARKconX – art, music, comedy, geek, and more

20150919_162629More SPARKcon happening on Saturday, September 19. Check out our SPARKcon adventures from Friday night. As Merri Beth and I were getting into Downtown Raleigh, we totally forgot about the Nog Run Octoberfest 8k. When we turned onto Wilmington Street it was gridlock. Total chaos due to multiple street closures. We eventually navigated to the City Center parking deck via side streets and got on our way—but it took us much longer than expected. Continue reading
