We had a full day in front of us to explore downtown Wilmington and more breweries. Merri Beth and I were joined by her sister Jenni and cousin Nikki, to celebrate Jenni’s birthday weekend. On Friday, we explored Wilmington Brewing Company, Front Street Brewery, and Ironclad Brewery. On tap for today: Broomtail Craft Brewery, Waterline Brewing, and Flytrap Brewing—and really, whatever Wilmington had in store for us. Continue reading

Brewery Exploring in Wilmington
Merri Beth and I spent a weekend in Wilmington, NC to celebrate her sister’s birthday and to explore the beer scene flowing along the Cape Fear River. From Wilmington Brewing Company to newly opened Waterline Brewing Company and a cluster of other breweries along the water front area, we sampled, explored, and had a great time. Continue reading
Tapping into the Denver Summer Scene – Day One
The kids were gone, the house was clean, the garden was tended, and a fresh batch of salsa was just processed last night. Our suitcase was packed and Merri Beth and I were ready to head to Denver for an extended weekend. Fun, not work. Continue reading
OBX Sandbars and Board Shorts Day Four: Taco Tuesday
Not only was it Taco Tuesday on day four of our OBX beach week, but it was “Work From OBX” day. On Tuesday, July 2, Merri Beth and I were working remote and getting stuff done. Red Hat is great that way. I have the ability to work remote and still operate pretty smoothly with my team. My mom had today off and needed to run some errands. Zander tagged along with her. OBX Sandbars and Board Shorts Day One: Stormy Shrimp
We arrived on the Outer Banks on Friday, June 28, after a three hour drive from Raleigh. We unpacked the Jeep, settled in, and watched a nasty round of evening storms pass through.
On Saturday morning, we were eager to hit the beach, but the weather was not cooperating. When I woke up at 6:30am, it was raining, so I rolled over and went back to sleep. As the rest of the family got their day started, Zander and I went up to NY Bagel to grab some breakfast for everyone. After that, we started making plans for the day, trying to anticipate what the weather would do and plan around it. Continue reading
Country Style Beef Ribs
I was at the grocery store the other day and saw these beautiful boneless beef ribs. I love ribs but since Jason doesn’t eat pork I only have ribs when we go out. I thought I couldn’t lose with buying beef ribs because they were, well, beef. I also thought these would be great to have while tailgating for the NC State vs Cincinnati game. Once I got home with these beautiful ribs, I realized I had no idea how to cook them. Continue reading
30 Minute Meal Challenge #1
Monday night was the first challenge – will the recipe I selected be liked by the family?
Spicy and Sweet Chicken and Couscous Pot with Minty Cilantro Sauce
One of the main ingredients in this dish was one I have only eaten once and have never cooked/prepared – couscous. I was also curious to find out how Zander would react to this weird looking food. Continue reading
30 Minute Meal Challenge
I’ve decided to challenge myself in the kitchen this week. The rules of the challenge are:
- All meats used for dinner must come out of the freezer
- All recipes must come from the Rachael Ray Express Lane Meals cookbook and Continue reading
