Raleigh’s Creative District Wiki Day Set for March 17

Neighborhood leaders from the Creative District are looking to document the history, assets, and knowledge of Southwest Raleigh on the morning of March 17. We are planning a content day to add pages and knowledge to trianglewiki.org.

Attendees will get a brief overview of how to create a new wiki page, how to use the mapping application, how to link to other wiki pages, and how to edit existing pages.

Our goal will be to document as many neighborhoods, places, and unique features that exist in the Creative District. Continue reading →

A Sneak Peak at Pullen Park

On November 17, 2011, I joined other community members to explore the recently rennovated Pullen Park in Southwest Raleigh, NC. The instant you walk through the gate, you realize that this is a special place for Raleigh. I was immediately impressed. The park staff has many reasons to smile, because Pullen Park is going to attract park-goers from all over North Carolina and beyond.

Get Your Pirate On – My First OBX Half Marathon

It was five years ago this weekend that I caught the running bug—thanks to my buddy Iain Gray, who ran the Outer Banks Marathon back in 2006. Merri Beth, Zander (6 months old at the time), and I, spent the weekend on the Outer Banks to cheer on the runners. It was a great experience and inspired me to get into running.

Last weekend, I had my best half marathon to date. I finished the City of Oaks race in 1 hour, 42 minutes and I was in the top 20 of my age group. I’m ecstatic with the results. I’ve come a long way in four years. I’m blessed to be able to run these races and love the feeling when I cross the finish line.

Running the City of Oaks

This year will be my fifth time running in the City of Oaks half-marathon. My finish times have ranged from my first ever half-marathon at 1 hour and 54 minutes to last years personal best of 1 hour and 46 minutes.

Update on our Outdoor Living Space

Deck and patio projectYou may remember that we started exploring creating more outdoor living space here at Ramsgate Manor. The project is well underway and taking a bit longer than we had expected.

Construction started in early May. We were planning on being out of town for about 3 weeks—which presented the perfect opportunity to get most of the project complete (in our eyes). When we returned from our trip to San Francisco and Honolulu, the deck had been framed and the planks installed. Unfortunately, the railing was not installed and the patio was an after thought. Here are some posts from other places that I write, including opensource.com, southwestraleigh.com (Raleigh’s Creative District), and CityCamp Raleigh. It was an exciting few weeks that included an awesome CityCamp Raleigh event on June 3, 4, and 5th. Also, a key initiative for an economic development proposal was in front of City Council for Southwest Raleigh related to the efforts happening on southwestraleigh.com. It passed on June 21 by a 7-1 vote.
