Our second full day in Cancun was looking to be pretty chill. We hadn’t planned anything yet, but we had a list of things we were interested in doing. Everyone slept in again and then as each of us woke up, we started doing some research. But something was bugging me about the rental car and we needed to make a decision. Once we put a bow in a few of our travel excursions, we found a gorgeous beach not too far away and enjoyed an evening just hanging out.

Our family doesn’t celebrate birthdays, we like to celebrate birthday weeks! Feliz cumpleaños (Happy birthday) to Merri Beth for another trip around the sun and we’re in Mexico all week looking for the best beaches and snorkeling. Were here during the winter solstice near ancient Mayan cities, how awesome is that? We had to grind it out and do some grocery shopping before making it to the beach, but getting supplies is super important for a successful trip. And the beach was pretty amazing. This is our first full day of vacation in Mexico.

Our family holiday adventure to Cancun, Mexico was about to take off. We were all packed up and ready to go. Rex (our 13-year old Border Collie) is enjoying the holidays on the Outer Banks while we seek warmer weather in Quintana Roo, Mexico and the beautiful Caribbean waters. Our trip started off a little rough with the rental car agency, but got better every day. This is our holiday adventure in Mexico for the first time as we explore the beaches in Cancun.

There’s a first time for everything, right? As long as I’ve lived at or visited the Outer Banks, I had no idea you could go bow fishing on the Sound … at night. Wow, were we in for a treat. Zander couldn’t contain himself leading up to the adventure. And what an evening we had, complete with a world-class sunset.

The family was stoked to go offshore fishing with Captain Rom Whitaker and first mate Andy Trant on The Release. It was a windy and sometimes rainy Wednesday out of Hatteras Harbour and we had an amazing time. When all was all said and done, we caught 5 Sailfish and some Yellowfin Tuna. It was a long day, but we had fresh fish for dinner!

The final day of One Love California Reggae Festival was another day full of back-to-back sets from some of our favorite bands and some of our new favorite bands. We slept in a bit today after a really long Saturday to make the most of the final day.
Our main focus was to arrive in time and get a good spot to see the Common Kings. But the weather was going to be a challenge. Colder temps and rain was in the forecast, but we were prepared thanks to last year. Game on.
Continue readingThe second day of One Love California Reggae Festival was awesome and very long. I can say that we were both tired and our feet were hurting from standing all day. We got to see some of our favorite bands and explore some new ones.
Our line-up included (listened to Low Budget on our way in to see the) Bumpin Uglies (great set), Of Good Nature (from Charlotte, NC), Passafire, The Movement (best set of the day), Seranation, Fortunate Youth, Tribal Seeds, SOJA, Stick Figure, Rebelution, and The Original Wailers.
The first day of the One Love California Reggae Festival was amazing. and while we couldn’t see all the bands, we did our best.
Our line-up included Dirty Heads, Sublime with Rome, Kyle Smith, The Expandables, Pepper, Pacific Dub, Ballyhoo!, and Katastro.
Happy 2019! We woke up and grabbed breakfast in the hotel lobby, dreading the drive back to North Carolina. We were planning to stop in Savannah, so that was something to look forward to. That and South of the Border. Yeah, not so much, that’s more of an iconic milestone that we’re almost home. It was a fun road trip home, which were sure you can relate to in some capacity.
