Avalon Pier
Avalon Pier located at Mile Post 6. I'm not sure if this is a North Carolina thing or not, but at least we contain all of our Red Necks to one beach - this is the spot. Ladies, you've been warned! Watch out for drunk men drinking Budweiser and holding up pizza boxes with "10's" on them, followed by some whistles. Despite the local Red Necks and a topless woman or two, the surf peaks up too.
You should park in sandy lot to the south, the pier owners can get a little tense every now and then. Remember to keep surfing, swimming, and shore fishing 300 yards away from the pier structure. Avalon seems to be a good summer break (if there is one the Outer Banks) but, is mostly hopping in the spring and fall. Watch out for Delbert on his longboard. If you don't know Delbert, go to Avalon Pier and meet an Outer Banks icon - spongers (the surf riders on the foam boogie boards) beware!!
