Diamond Head
We decided to hike Diamond Head Crater in this morning. We were up at 5:00 AM, way before sunrise, and wanted to be at the Diamond Head State Monument as the park opened. We navigated our way over to DH and parked the car outside the tunnel leading to the park and grabbed our gear. Walked through the tunnel and to the gate where we paid a $1 entrance fee. The ascent to the top began in the cool morning air. It took us about 40 minutes to reach the top, twisting our way up the side of the crater, through a 225-foot tunnel, climbed 74 steps, then 99 steps (all in a row), ascended a spiral staircase, through a fire control station bunker, and reached the summit. We had an awesome, 360 degrees view of Waikiki and the surrounding areas. We caught a beautiful sunrise on our way up, simply breathtaking.
